Precise air temperature metrology

A theoretical semi-empirical model for precise air temperature metrology

Paul McBrien · 13 April 2021

Paul McBrien’s 2021 work, “A theoretical semi-empirical model for precise air temperature metrology,” is listed as reference [7] in the final report of the EURAMET interlaboratory comparison of air thermometer calibration 2023 study.

The project brought together national metrology institutes and partner laboratories across Europe, including the UK’s NPL, Germany’s PTB, Ireland’s NSAI National Metrology Laboratory, and Italy’s INRiM. It compared air thermometer calibration from −80 °C to +60 °C, investigating measurement uncertainty and sources of bias to inform best practice in precision thermometry.

This research background informs Shovelstone’s approach to accuracy, uncertainty, traceability, and repeatable results.
